The Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will culminate with Avengers Infinity War Part I and II, and every main hero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe plus a few extras will feature and work together to take down the formidable infinity gauntlet-wielding titan and foe, Thanos.
Save the Guardians of the Galaxy and Dr Strange, most of the other characters in the MCU are currently on strange terms with each other thanks to the events that transpired during Captain America: Civil War. It is unclear how the Avengers will come together to take down Thanos, although the letter Steve Rogers wrote to Tony Stark at the end of Civil War is expected to play a huge part).
The characters confirmed to appear in the Avengers: Infinity Wars are –
The Avengers – Iron Man (Robert Downey Jnr), Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson).
Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), Vision (Paul Bettany) – Vision’s mind stone will be a target for Thanos, who will need its powers to fully harness the power of the gauntlet. And the target on Vision’s head may just be what Scarlet Witch needs to spark up the love story that fans across the universe have been waiting to see come to life.
The Guardians of the Galaxy and Nebula – The Guardians of the galaxy first introduced and explained the ‘stones’ to the MCU, although they had been present for a long time in the form of the Tesseract (Captain America: The first Avenger) and Ether (Thor: The Dark World), it’s no surprise that they will appear in Infinity Wars as Peter Quill and his friends will look to end Thanos’ reign and free Gamora from his grip once and for all.
Dr Strange and Wong – The sorcerer supreme who is no doubt one of the most powerful characters in the MCU, will be a threat to Thanos because not only can he manipulate time and cosmic energy, he also has the Time stone in the eye of agamotto, which means the titan will be looking to defeat him and add the stone to his gauntlet.
Antman – While his shrinking/growing powers will be invaluable against a god-like being who can stop anything he sees with a flex of his gauntleted hand, the thing to keep in mind about Ant-Man is that he has access to the Quantum Realm of reality – that place where eagle-eyed fans spotted Eternity possibly hanging out, during the Ant-Man movie.
Black Panther – After the drama of Wakanda is done, and the Panther is (presumably) an official superhero figure in the world, he will return to help The Avengers battle in Infinity War.
Spiderman – After his tantalising debut in Captain America: Civil War, and his obvious move to try to join the Avengers from what we’ve seen in Spiderman: Homecoming Trailer, it is no surprise that the webhead will join Tony Stark (at least) as he and his team faces a formidable foe who poses a threat to the entire universe.
Nick Fury – With The Avengers program he initiated now threatened with the events that transpired during the Civil War, what better way for Nick Fury to make an appearance than to try uniting the team against an enemy that is strong enough to take on everyone in the MCU and defeat them.
Winter Soldier – it is unclear yet what his role will be in the movie, as he is currently on ice in Wakanda, but the Winter Soldier is set to appear in the movie. The Black Panther movie scheduled to release in 2018 before Avengers Infinity Wars may play a part and better explain his role in the movie.
Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) – Although we haven’t had any onscreen presence of Captain Marvel, the female superhero will also be in Infinity Wars before her solo movie comes out. Her powers which rival that of the Hulk and her link to cosmic energy will definitely play a huge part in taking the infinity gauntlet-wielding Thanos down. Her solo movie may take shape due to the cosmic energy and battles that will take place in Infinity Wars.
The two characters at threat the most in the MCU are Vision and the sorcerer supreme Dr Strange, who both hold the mind and time stones respectively.
Unconfirmed Marvel Characters so far – Marvel’s Netflix Defenders Team (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist), Phil Coulson’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. team, Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders).
Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), Pepper Potts (Gwenyth Paltrow), Betty Ross (Liv Tyler), General Thunderbolt Ross (William Hurt), Ghost Rider (Gabriel Luna).
